As part of this commissioning mandate, the following tasks were performed:

  • Powering up the various distribution buses;
  • Commissioning electrical equipment such as pumps, lighting, navigation signals, ventilation system, emergency system, etc.
  • Testing the commissioned systems and correcting any problems;
  • Revising the electrical diagrams based on the modifications made following the tests;
  • Supporting suppliers in the commissioning of their systems;
  • Inspecting and transferring the systems to the Canadian Coast Guard;
  • Managing the locking and unlocking of systems and distribution panels.

The conversion and refit work carried out on the CCGS Jean Goodwill consisted of improving icebreaking capabilities and endurance, modernizing the propulsion control system, upgrading navigation and communication electronics, improving the galley, and increasing crew accommodation capacity.

About the commissioning engineer

The role of a commissioning engineer is to ensure that the ship’s systems and electrical network are fully functional and to facilitate the transfer of systems from the shipyard to the customer. They also provide support to suppliers when they commission their own equipment and to production when adjustments are necessary. 3E Eng. can provide highly qualified shipyard engineers to complete your most complex electrical and mechanical projects.
